Charity Football Match

DARRELL BING loved football and was the inspiration behind the formation of  Eltham Royals Football Club.

In June 2007 Darrell passed away after bravely fighting an illness over 15  years. He had an extremely rare wasting disease which gradually crippled him  and eventually claimed his life.

His death devastated his family and friends, some of whom knew Darrell since  he was a schoolboy and through Eltham Royals.

We decided to honour Darrell by hosting a charity football match to raise money for Demelza, Hospice Care for Children's appeal to build a children's  hospice in Eltham.

This was a cause close to Darrell's heart and Eltham, with his parents John  and Anne and his elder brother Phil, had been his home for all the nearly 38 years of his life.

Darrell would have been proud to have been involved with the reforming of  Eltham Royals for the match against the Arsenal Ex-Professionals and  Celebrity XI, whose squad includes Perry Groves and Paul Davis, actor Ralf  Little (Royle Family) and singer Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet).

It will be played on Sunday 20th July, kick off 3pm, at Thamesmead Town FC's  ground in Bayliss Avenue, SE28. Gates open 1pm for pre-match family entertainment and tickets costs £2 each (free for under 10s).

Darrell was aware of Beacons FC through Luke and Ben Gillham and always wanted to know how they doing. Please feel free to attend the match. It should be a great day out.
